“She rose, she fell, she rose again”

The Exhibition has been created because Jo Oakley (artist and owner of “She rose” shop and gallery space) commissioned Flo to explore the connotations of “She rose”

At first Flo explored the theme on a very visual level, creating portraits representing empowerment and vulnerability. Her objective being to create a cohesive exhibition very narrative of rising, falling and rising again.

It soon became apparent to Flo that the actual process of creating this exhibition was very representational of the theme, but also her evolving journey as an artist.

Flo’s expressive style, explores the visibility of the physical journey a painting takes. She intentionally leaves areas unrefined, drawing lines and brushstrokes visible, essentially exposing her own journey for us to see. Even in the pieces that represent the falling/doubt/vulnerable part of the theme, the marks are still visible and bold, working with the belief that Flo has about there being strength in sharing your more vulnerable moments.

The exhibition has encouraged Flo to embrace the idea, that we aren’t just one thing, that rising again means you can’t be the same as you were before you fell, that your today is different to your tomorrow, and everything can be both different and the same.
