Original Artwork- Acrylic, emulsion and charcoal on stretched canvas.
I painted this piece after being inspired by a recent visit to the Jenny Saville exhibition, at The National Portrait Gallery in London. It wasn’t the muse I was inspired to paint but rather the willingness to take up the space with the scale of the painting and the direct gaze of the muse.
The title of the painting is obviously a nod to the lines in the piece, but more so to the evolution of my work not being linear. In fact at times going right back to the start, as with this piece as Jenny Saville was absolutely the artist that made me fall in love with figurative work and brushstrokes.
Please see the photos for detailed images. Although the piece may look refined at a distance, the marks and colours beneath the portrait are very much visible. you can see my initial drawing lines as well as just washes of colour. This is very intentional. I like paintings that offer a different experience up close to from afar.
The painting is on stretched canvas, measuring approximately 1m square x 2cm deep. It is ready to hang but would also look fantastic framed.
