Interested in a unique piece of Artwork? Ask about a commission.

What is a commission?

A commission is a request for a bespoke piece of original artwork.

What do I need to do if I would like a commission?

All you need to do is contact me directly via email hello@florenceleeandco.com to start the conversation. There is no commitment or obligation, feel free to ask as many questions as you like. We can chat via email, phone or meet in person- whatever is most convenient for you.

What can commissions be of?

Commissions can be of anything you would like. The majority of my commission requests have been portraits of family members, or famous icons but also pets and animals. I am really open to hearing your ideas, however I will decline the opportunity if I do not think I can do justice to the request.

I have a great network of artists so I may be able to recommend and artist who style is better suited, if I am unable to complete the request.

Therefore please make sure you have had a good look through my work to see my style, it always helps if you can reference a piece of my work you like as that will help me envisage the final painting. (Also check my Sold Artwork/Archive section as well)

How much will it cost?

Prices vary, depending on style, size, materials, timescales etc. Please take a look at my original artwork page to get an idea of my prices. However once I have gathered all of the information from your request I will provide you with a fixed price.

How quickly can I get a commission?

It will depend entirely on the request and my current workload. So please ensure you inform me of the timescales that I need to work to when we have the initial conversation. I can prioritise my workload to try my best to fulfill your request. I can complete requests quickly if necessary.

How do I pay for my artwork?

With any commission there is an initial payment of 20% of the total price, that is non refundable. The balance will payable once the artwork is complete and you are happy with it. You can pay via bank transfer, PayPal or upon collection using cash or card, if you are able to collect from Bristol.

Refunds aren’t available on commissions - but you won’t pay the final 80% until you are happy with the artwork.

Will I see updates of my Artworks progress?

I will clarify details at the beginning of the process, colours, scale, style etc. I do not provide photographic updates throughout the process. I don’t do this because an artwork needs to go through various stages, and therefore it will not be beneficial to share process photos.

However, final payment is not due until you are entirely happy with the painting.

I am happy to make small adjustments to a painting if required, but I will have collated enough information from our initial conversations that our visions for the painting will be aligned.

What do you need to provide me with?

I work from photographs- so I will need a photograph in the desired pose for the painting. This can be sent via email. I can piece together a few reference photos if necessary.

It is great if I am doing a portrait of a person or pet, if I know a bit about their personality as this can influence colours and my brushstrokes.

After purchasing the original can I order prints?

Yes, you are able to order prints up to A3 in size.

Can I get my artwork framed?

Yes. I work with an amazing local framer. They are able to frame canvases and paper based artworks in whatever style you want. All that I request is that for paper based items, that acrylic glass is used, to avoid breakage during transportation.

I will need to know whether you want this at the beginning of the process so that I can quote for this in the total price.

Will my commission image be used elsewhere?

The copyright remains with me.

Prints will not be advertised for sale, you will need to email me directly if you would like to order them.

I use commissions on my marketing information, which includes social media, however I will always gain your consent prior to doing so.
